What advise do you have for the homeowner who wants to do his or her own landscaping and yard work?
Typically a person who likes to putter around the yard doing odds and ends for enjoyment, will get a lot of personal pleasure from yard work. that is a great thing and I am all for it.
But often what I see is a couple who drives back and forth to a home and garden center, spins away more money than they had intended, and ends up doing about half the job they really wanted, with disappointing results.
The thing to remember is almost all yardwork or landscaping takes a good deal more effort and expertise than originally thought. I have seen people with good intentions go out and spend literally thousands of dollars on mulch, topsoil, flower bed borders, flagstones, pine straw, statuary, fertilizer and then not have time to do the work to make their yard look the way they wanted in the first place.
Just a quick meeting with a good landscaper and they could have saved a lot of effort and time. Plus when you really consider it, is the goal is to to have a beautiful yard or to do yard work yourself . That makes a big difference. What I suggest is call me for the heavy lifting and you do the fun part at your discretion.
